Green Smoothies help curb hunger

I usually wake up around 6am, have a cup of coffee (black) on my way to the gym and then train clients until 10am. I come home and make this green protein shake as my first meal of the day. I try and give myself a 12 hour window of no food, starting from my dinner the night before to my breakfast the next day. This fasting perimg_1664iod has helped me stay lean, and this shake helps satiate me throughout the day. Chia seeds, as I have posted about before, are a great appetite suppressant. They absorb a ton of liquid, even while in your body, so they help you feel full. I also love adding matcha to my shakes
as an added metabolism booster. It gives me a little extra energy too. And since I love the creaminess of milk, but don’t love the calories and sugar content, I substitute it with Unsweetened coconut milk. Its almost 1/3 less calories, and less than 1 gram of sugar!

Here’s the recipe :

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon slivered almonds
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup spinach
  • 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
  • 1 packet or scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use APEX 130cals 25g protein)
  • 1/2 frozen banana (add ice cubes if you don’t have frozen banana)
  • approximately 325 calories
